Step by step

Machines included in the vegetable processing line

Belt slicer BSM - Sormac

Step 1 – Belt slicer BSM: precise and versatile cutting

The Belt slicer BSM is the first processing step in the vegetable processing line, delivering precise and consistent cutting results. The machine is suitable for processing more than 20 types of vegetables and fruits, including cabbages, leafy vegetables, carrots, cucumbers, peppers and onions. Thanks to a wide range of knife sets, the BSM supports various cutting styles, including straight cuts, cross cuts, julienne, grating and waffle cuts. The intelligent top and bottom belts guide the product accurately towards the knife, while the top belt pressure automatically adapts to the selected product. Combined with a capacity of up to 1,500 kg per hour, more than 100 programmable recipes and a hygienic design, the Belt slicer BSM-150 is a versatile solution for efficient, high-quality vegetable processing.

Step 2 – Conveying: controlled and hygienic product transport

The Trough conveyor TBT ensures controlled transport of cut vegetables and leafy vegetables between the different processing steps in the vegetable processing line. Thanks to the trough-shaped conveyor belt, the product remains stable during transport, minimising product loss and damage. Positioned directly after the Belt slicer BSM, the TBT conveys the product straight to the Spiral Washer, ensuring an efficient and continuous product flow. Its open hygienic design, tool-free removable infeed and discharge hoppers, and quick belt change system make the conveyor easy to clean and maintain. With its mobile frame, the TBT Trough conveyor provides a flexible and reliable solution for transporting freshly cut vegetables.

Step 3 – Spiral washer SW-50: thorough washing with gentle product handling

The Spiral washer SW-50 washes cut vegetables effectively while ensuring gentle product handling. A controlled water flow combined with the spiral conveyor provides optimal mixing of product and water, efficiently removing sand, dirt and other contaminants while minimising product damage. In this vegetable processing line, two washing stages have been selected to achieve optimum washing performance and high product quality. Depending on the type of vegetable, the level of contamination and the desired end product, however, a second washing stage is not always required. Thanks to its modular design, the line can easily be configured to meet specific application and process requirements, ensuring the ideal balance between product quality, capacity and efficiency.

Step 4 – Basket carousel BCA: efficient switching between centrifuge cycles

The Basket carousel BCA optimises the drying process by automating the loading and unloading of baskets at the Basket centrifuge. While one basket is being centrifuged, a second basket can be filled and a third can be emptied. This ensures a seamless transition between processing steps while minimising downtime. The BCA contributes to a continuous product flow, increases line capacity and reduces the physical workload for operators. Thanks to its robust hygienic design and seamless integration with the Basket centrifuge MC-44/Vario, the Basket carousel BCA provides an efficient solution for processing leafy vegetables and other freshly cut vegetables.

Step 5 – Basket centrifuge MC-44/Vario: efficient drying while preserving product quality

The Basket centrifuge MC-44/Vario removes excess wash water after the washing process, delivering optimum drying results while ensuring gentle product handling. Thanks to programmable centrifuge cycles, variable rotational speeds and the reverse function, the drying process can be precisely adjusted to different types of leafy vegetables and cut vegetables. This effectively reduces residual surface moisture while minimising product damage and preserving product quality. The ergonomic low loading height, hygienic design and the ability to store more than 100 recipes make the Basket centrifuge MC-44/Vario a flexible and reliable solution for efficient vegetable processing. Combined with the Basket carousel BCA, it creates a continuous and efficient product flow, further optimising the capacity of the complete vegetable processing line.

The video below demonstrates how Sormac's vegetable processing line combines cutting, washing and drying into one efficient processing solution. The Belt slicer BSM delivers accurate and consistent cutting, after which the product is gently conveyed into the Spiral washer SW-50 for thorough cleaning. The Basket carousel BCA automatically optimizes the product flow to the Basket centrifuge MC, enabling efficient drying with minimal manual handling. Designed for a wide range of vegetables, this modular vegetable processing line delivers consistent product quality, operational flexibility and reliable performance from start to finish.

What our customers say about us

We primarily slice tomatoes. Sormac offered us a specially developed cup belt for this application. The slices drop directly into the cups, making them quick and easy to pack. This cup belt is the real game changer for us, because without it the slices would be scattered across a conveyor belt and would be much more difficult to handle.
