Throughout the day, we welcomed visitors to discuss the latest developments in leafy salad processing. Conversations focused on topics including automation, washing and drying technologies, product quality, shelf life and food safety. The event also provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and establish new connections within the industry.

"The BLSA Open Day was a genuine showcase of what's possible when our industry comes together. For Sormac, it was a valuable opportunity to engage directly with growers and processors about the challenges they're facing and how automation can help address them – whether that's improving product quality, extending shelf life, or strengthening food safety. All in all, a great day for Sormac and the leafy salad industry in general."

Sean Martin, Managing Director, Sormac Ltd.

A key topic throughout the event was the growing focus on producing high-quality leafy salads while meeting increasing demands for food safety and operational efficiency. Sormac's processing solutions – including intelligent lettuce coring using vision technology, as well as the latest advancements in leafy salad washing and drying equipment – attracted considerable interest, particularly among visitors looking to optimise their production processes.

Another important discussion point was aphid control and removal in leafy vegetables. Drawing on its extensive research and practical experience, Sormac shared insights into effective washing technologies and processing methods that help processors tackle this specific challenge.

"The BLSA Open Day was a great opportunity to connect with growers and processors and discuss how Sormac's washing and drying solutions can help meet the evolving needs of the industry. We also had several valuable conversations around aphid control and removal, which remains a key focus for many producers. Overall, it was an excellent event for networking, sharing knowledge, and strengthening relationships across the leafy salad sector."
